About Me

I'm a 40year old bloke that was diagnosed with chronic left ventricular heart failure in the summer of 2016.  I spent 4 weeks in hospital being treated for this after being ill for quite a while but doing the usual man thing of thinking it would get better on it's own.

During my time in hospital I managed to lose over 20 Kg (or over 3 stone in real money) simply by peeing it out.  I say simply but it was a bit more difficult than that as the medication I was on to help shift the extra fluid that had built up made my kidneys a bit over enthusastic which while resulting in losing 10 Kg overnight also sent my kidneys to sleep for a while.

My medication was tweaked and eventually I was allowed back home to recover.  Since then I have had to change many things about my lifestyle such as stopping smoking (a good thing!), stopping drinking (for the most part that's fine and non alcoholic beer is getting better all the time), not eating so much crap (probably the hardest of the lot) and taking up exercise.  Anyone that knows me will confirm that I've never been the most athletic person in the world but surprisingly I'm enjoying it!

Anyway, I decided that I wanted somewhere where I could dump my experiences and thoughts of how I'm coping with my new life and as I'm a web developer (not a designer as you can probably tell!) I figured this was probably the most obvious place for everything.

So, hopefully you'll enjoy reading about the trials and tribulations and hopefully lots of high points of me just getting on with things.

Finally, I'd like to thank the amazing hard working and comitted people that work in the NHS who without their tireless efforts I wouldn't be here today.  You are often maligned and looked over by the powers that be (especially the current lot) but the work you do is most definitely valued.

Oh, and why 'Pouring Out My Heart'?  Well, quite simply it's a song from the best debauched Rock 'n' Roll band out there - The Dogs D'amour.  Music is amazingly important to me and the Dogs have been playing the music I've been listening to for 30yrs or so.  When working out a name for the site this sprang to mind for obvious reasons.  I may no longer be 'swingin the bottle' but the Dogs will always be the music of choice when I need  to forget the stresses of life.  Also, big thanks to the amazing drummer Bam for letting me use an image of one of his brilliant bits of jewellery for the site logo.  If you want some of his silverware to adorn your body then head off over to http://bamtasticsilver.com.
